Join Michael for a two-day weekend "Plein Air Sketch to Studio" workshop in historic Eastport. Students will gather reference material in the form of color sketches, drawings and photos and then head to the studio to create finished words under Michael's guidance.

Michael returns to Sunbury Shores and St Andrews for another summer! Four-day workshop, all media. We'll paint beautiful St Andrews and environs. "Plein Air Sketch to Studio" is this summer's theme. We'll spend part of the day in the field gathering reference material and then go to the studio to create finished works.

Five-day workshop on Mount Desert Island in Maine. We'll paint Acadia National Park and other scenic spots such as Bernard and Southwest Harbor.

Two-day all media, all level plein air workshop in historic Middlebury, Vermont. Organized through the Middlebury Studio School.

Four-day plein air oil and/or pastel workshop in scenic Milheim, Pennsylvania. All levels, all media.

Two-day plein air workshop in the north Georgia mountains of Blue Ridge. All levels, all media.

Four-day plein air workshop in Carmel-by-the-Sea, sponsored by the Carmel Art Institute.. All levels, all media. "From Plein Air Sketch to Studio" is the theme. In this workshop, students will spend time out in the field gathering reference material with cameras, sketchbooks and limited palettes, and then go to the studio to create finished works from the references. During the course of the workshop, Michael will cover the basics in necessary gear and materials and explain key concepts in gathering reference material; demonstrate in the field what photos and sketches will be most helpful; and then in the studio, demonstrate how to use the reference materials in creating compositional and color studies and ultimately a finished painting. Students will have plenty of opportunity to gather their own reference materials and create their own finished paintings under Michael’s eye.

Join Michael on New Zealand's Kowhai Coast March for a real painting retreat March 5-11, 2013. Although there will be no formal instruction, Michael will be doing plenty of demonstrations and critiques. There's also a lot more to look forward to in the way of land and sea excursions as well as fine dining.

The workshop is being coordinated by artists Adele Earnshaw and Joe Garcia. Adele is a native New Zealander and grew up in the area. She will be our guide for the trip and promises us a wonderful experience.
