Join award-winning painter and instructor Michael Chesley Johnson MPAC PSA PSNM
for week-long, intensive mentoring plein air workshops in Sedona, Arizona,
December 2009-April 2010.
Michael is one of 30 nationally-known artists invited to paint in the
2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Sedona
Plein Air Festivals.
He will share his secret painting spots in "Red Rock Country!"
Modelled on his popular Campobello Island plein air workshops at Friar's Bay Studio Gallery, each workshop consists of five scheduled half-days with additional painting and discussion time. These will be intensive, mentoring workshops. You must have prior plein air experience and be comfortable painting outdoors. The mentoring workshop will feature plenty of critiques and "art talk." Although Michael will concentrate on oil and pastel, all media are welcome.
Price of the workshop - $1000, which includes lodging for 6 nights plus 6 breakfasts and 5 lunches. You will arrive Sunday and depart Saturday. A friend or spouse may accompany you for an additional $300, but must share your room and bath. (Companion does not have to be a painter.) Lodging is limited, so reserve soon! Students needing only mentoring and who have lodging elsewere are welcome to attend for $300.

What is a Mentoring Workshop?
Mentoring originated from Greek mythology, in which Mentor was a wise and trusted advisor to Odysseus. Under Mentor's direction and guidance, Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, became a much-loved ruler. Today, a mentor is an advisor and supporter, and perhaps even a friend and role model, of someone pursuing specific goals.
Because people have different goals and life experiences, mentoring isn't a science. Instead, it requires the mentor to carefully assess each case and to respond accordingly and effectively.
